Update your festive look with our chic solutions, from sparkling table ideas to clever card displays.

Do it yourself

Make Christmas personal and create your own cards. Photocopy a black and white woodland image and stick onto card, then sprinkle on glitter for a sparkling winter light effect.

Alternatively, use recycled pieces of fabric cut into small pieces, and glue on in the shape of a Christmas tree.

Ball park

Baubles aren’t just for the tree; play with scale and display different-sized ones in a clear bowl.

It’s a wrap

Get the designer gift-wrapped look (on a budget) by using coloured tissue paper topped with iridescent paper or lace. Or why not print out your own graphic paper from your computer? For a cute foodie gift, simply tie cakes up with a ribbon.

Light up light up

An oversized glass candelabra will add glamour to a room. For a modern twist, spell out festive words on your mantel, and add flashes of fuchsia and orange – try displaying Christmas tangerines on a white cake stand.

Sparks will fly

Place sparklers on your Christmas pudding to add to the party spirit. Update the trad red and green table scheme with fresher shades of raspberry and alpine green, and ground an all-white space with black accessories, such as black placemats. Crackers can be prettied up with a lace corsage.

Cracker time

Recycle offcuts of wallpaper and use to spruce up plain crackers. Just cut a small section to size, then stick down using clear tape.

House of cards

Layer all your cards in one place and make use of an empty alcove by creating a colourful 3D collage. Simply stick up using Blu Tack, then add a few special Christmas decorations into the mix.

Pie in the sky

Don’t forget to leave a little note for Santa. A mince pie and a small glass of sherry will keep him happy while he fills your stockings.
